The federal government is limiting the number of hours international students are allowed to work in a single week to 24 hours.
Ottawa previously waived a 20-hour cap on work hours for international students during the pandemic.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller says a cap was reinstated to ensure that international students are successful in their academic pursuits and that they are coming into the country to study.
“We know that increasing working hours while studying at post-secondary institutions can lead to declining academic performance,” Miller told reporters yesterday.
“We need to support international students and make sure that they’re set up for success, and that they’re here properly studying.”
