Crews and extra resources from other provinces will pitch in today to help fight the forest fires in Labrador.
Churchill Falls was evacuated on Wednesday night, with just over 500 people descending on Happy Valley-Goose Bay for temporary lodging.
No structures in Churchill Falls are being threatened at the moment as the nearest blaze is burning about seven kilometres southwest of the town, on the opposite side of the Churchill River.
Suppression efforts have been focused on ensuring the flames do not jump the river.
The other fire is about 17 kms away.
Fire duty officer Mark Lawlor says two waterbombers from Quebec arrived in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Thursday night and will be put to work in the Churchill Falls area this morning.
As well, two air tankers and crew, and a bird dog, or observation aircraft from Ontario are expected to arrive this morning. The province has also secured a heavy-lift helicopter that can carry a larger-than-usual amount of water.
Lawlor says as a result they’re in better shape today, in terms of resources, than the day before.
The evacuation order for Churchill Falls remains in place, however, along with a province-wide ban on open fires.
