Today is the start of what is expected to be an emotional Memorial Day weekend with the remains of an unknown Newfoundland First World War Soldier lying in state.
That is particularly true for members of the Royal Canadian Legion who have been coordinating and organizing the repatriation ceremonies for over five years.
Spokesperson Gary Browne says it will be an emotional weekend.
“It’s a big day, the emotions are high. We’re bringing home our hero, returning him to Newfoundland soil.” Browne says the remains represent all those who lost their lives in WWI, especially those with unknown graves.
