Officials in Alberta are hoping forecasted cooler weather and some rainfall will help crews tame wildfires in and around Jasper National Park.
Lower temperatures moved in late Thursday with about 15 millimetres of rain falling since midnight.
More rain is expected today with temperatures expected back in the mid 20s this weekend, which park officials say could spark more fires.
Ottawa is mobilizing resources to help Alberta’s wildfire crews.
Premier Andrew Furey has also pledged to assist if necessary, given the number of people from this province who live and work near the national park.
Meanwhile, residents are urged to keep an eye on air quality updates before heading outside due to smoke from the wildfires.
People should close windows and stay inside when warnings are high, while doing what they can to filter the indoor air.
