Two men were arrested last week following multiple searches in the Campbellton and Lewisporte area that resulted in the seizure of cocaine, opioids, firearms and other weapons.
Federal policing officers with the RCMP joined with members from the Lewisporte and Glovertown detachments, resulting in the arrest of 55-year-old Michael Upshall of Campbellton and another man.
The men were arrested last Wednesday, January 15th after trying to make their getaway on an ATV that was eventually stopped speeding down a trail.
Police recovered a quantity of cash from the two men and Police Dog Noah located a quantity of oxycodone and cocaine that had been discarded on the trail.
A search warrant was obtained on a vehicle the following day where cocaine, contraband tobacco and other items were seized.
Warrants were also executed on homes in Lewisporte and Campbellton where oxycodone, suspected fentanyl, eleven firearms, ammunition, a stun gun, knives, a pill press and $1,500 in cash were seized.
Upshall is facing numerous charges, including:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of a prohibited weapon – two counts
- Flight from police
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance (ATV)
- Possession of unstamped tobacco
- Possession of contraband tobacco
The second man is under investigation and charges are expected. The investigation continues.
