Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the conversation around Canada becoming the “51st state” is a non-starter and will not happen, but he cautioned, Canada and the world need to take U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments seriously.
“There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell, that Canada will ever be the 51st state,” Trudeau told reporters repeating his initial response when Trump first floated the idea. “At the same time, from having worked with President Trump for over eight years now, I can tell you that we have to take seriously what he says and make sure we’re responding appropriately.”
In the meantime, Trudeau says the response of Canadians has been inspiring.
He noted how Canadians have been there for each other, how they’ve supported Canadian products and businesses, diversified supply chains, and even changed their travel plans.
