An RCMP police dog successfully tracked a man believed responsible for a break in at a home in Stephenville earlier this week.
RCMP in Bay St. George were called shortly after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday about someone breaking into a home on Townview Road.
Surveillance cameras caught a suspect inside the home.
Responding officers found fresh footprints in the snow behind the house and police dog Thor went into action, tracking the suspect’s scent to a home on Woodland Drive in Stephenville.
RCMP arrested 49-year-old Terrance Benoit, who matched the description of the man caught on video, and took him into custody.
A number of stolen items were recovered. The accused has been charged with break and enter, failing to comply with the condition of a release order and breach of probation.
Police are also investigating a number of reports of a suspicious person breaking into vehicles in Stephenville, before the residential break in.
