An ice jam on the Exploits about 25 km upstream from the town of Badger has residents on tenterhooks 22 years after a similar situation caused widespread flood damage.
Water levels on the Exploits River below Noel Paul’s Brook are well above the high water mark, and are encroaching on Badger.
Town officials are monitoring the situation very closely, 22 years after rising water levels forced the evacuation of 1,000 residents and inundated homes, businesses and infrastructure.
The disaster at that time forced some residents to abandon their properties altogether, and new homes were built well away from the existing flood plain.
VOCM News is following the story and will have details as they become available.
