The city of Corner Brook has named its brand new recreational facility after a treasured civil servant, builder and multi-sport athlete.
Mayor Jim Parsons says the new Marina Redmond Centre has been a long time in the works, and he says choosing a name for the facility was a decision that came easily.

Marina Redmond served the city of Corner Brook for 27 years – 23 of which were as city clerk.
She passed away last year, but her legacy says Parsons is felt throughout the city.
He says she was a multi-sport athlete, “I think she tried pretty much every sport there is,” Parsons says fondly. “She was a volunteer, a builder,” and she was instrumental in developing a pickle ball group in the city, “long before it was the fashionable thing it is today.”
The new facility includes an indoor pool and multiple spaces for various sports and activities. The new facility’s official opening will take place on Saturday, May 24th.
