For the first time in almost a year, the unemployment rate in Newfoundland and Labrador has dipped below 10 per cent.
Nationally, the jobless rate rose from 6.7 per cent in March to 6.9 in April but in NL, it went down to 9.6 from 10.0 per cent.
Canada’s manufacturing sector shed 31,000 jobs in April as tariffs from the United States hampered the industry.
In the St. John’s metro region, unemployment remained just over 7 per cent.
