The Opposition is challenging the provincial government on the action being taken regarding serious incidents outlined in the AG’s recent report into long-term and personal care homes in the province.
Denise Hanrahan found a number of issues including eight “serious” incidents between April of 2022 and September of 2024 that were reported to the Department of Health requiring follow-up.
The incidents included allegations of sexual assault, and two deaths, one of which involved a resident who was found dead after going for a walk.
The Opposition PCs have called for a criminal investigation into some of the incidents.
Krista Lynn Howell could not speak to any specific investigations, but a process is in place to address the issues raised.
“Any incident that happens in our personal care homes is something that we take very seriously. There’s not a specific investigation to my knowledge, (but) there’s a process in place.”
