The Cape Spear National Historic Site is bracing for a busy summer season as it celebrates 50 years within Parks Canada.
The site has been a “must-stop” attraction for visitors and residents alike for generations and acting manager of visitor experience at National Historic Sites, Pascale Gerdun, says this year will be no different.
However, despite the area’s rugged beauty, Cape Spear and its unpredictable waves have claimed a number of lives over the years.
Gerdun is cautioning first-time visitors in particular about the dangers of venturing onto slippery rocks and getting too close to the pounding surf.
She’s urging people to mind posted signs and stick to designated trails and viewing areas.
