Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is indicating that contingency plans are in place for the delivery of air ambulance services now that the power has been cut to the airport in Stephenville.
Newfoundland Power crews were on the scene earlier this week disconnecting electricity to the facility, which has been hampered with legal and financial issues.
In a statement to VOCM News, NLHS says its medical communications centre coordinates the logistics for all patient transports and makes decisions based on the availability of aircraft and associated infrastructure.
The health authority is continuing to work with the provincial government on further mitigation efforts in case the Stephenville airport is not available, noting that the use of contingency plans are not out of the ordinary.
