A celebrated artist from this province has a new exhibit in St. John’s.
Freshwater, Placentia Bay native Bill Rose has had showings of his work in Toronto, London, the United States, and Germany.
His latest work is on display at the Emma Butler Gallery in the capital city’s downtown.
Rose says the exhibit is the result of three years of work.
He has about five or six different topics that he likes to paint about, including portraits of other artists, rock and roll, and even cereal boxes, all with witty social commentary or political subtexts.
Rose says he finds the colour of cereal boxes to be compelling, especially on Froot Loops.
He sometimes uses the cereal boxes to make political commentary.
As an example, he says on one cereal box he used snuck the Spanish word for ‘poison’ onto the ingredients list.
