An “Energy East Partnership” will be top of mind in Boston next week when six eastern Canadian premiers meet with the governors of six northeastern states.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey put out the invitation back in May, and NL Premier John Hogan will be among those in attendance.
Hogan says many of his talks between the Atlantic premiers have been focused on energy, and says his government would be open to transmitting energy to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI if the feds can get on board.
“Premier (Tim) Houston raised Energy East Partnership…on our call before we went to Saskatoon,” says Hogan, a concept in which all premiers were in agreement.
“The details are still to be talked about, which is why it’s great to have that opportunity to see them face to face. Premier Houston certainly focused on his ability in Nova Scotia to develop offshore wind into potential transmission lines throughout the Atlantic region. We would have the ability to do onshore wind, which is cheaper.”
