Government Update Coming on Replacement of HMP

The provincial government will provide an update on the replacement for Her Majesty’s Penitentiary on Monday.

Parts of Her Majesty’s Penitentiary date to the 1860s, and calls for the facility’s replacement have been made for decades.

The new facility will be located in a currently wooded area near the intersection of Harding Road and East White Hills Road.

A news conference will be held at the site, with infrastructure minister Elvis Loveless, justice minister John Haggie, area MHA Bernard Davis, and Hafeez Habib of New Avalon corrections Partners in attendance.

The event is taking place at 12:00 p.m.
