Education Minister Bernard Davis says his department will begin the process of filling new teaching positions announced in the 2025 budget “very soon.”
Government has set aside $20-million this year to fill some 400 new positions in the school system. 275 of those will be teachers, guidance counsellors, and administrators, and the remaining positions will be teaching assistants.
Davis says the “lion’s share” of the new positions will be advertised for the upcoming school year. He says they are in the “final stages” of what they need to do to have the jobs posted.
He says there is a “significant” amount of people both in the province and beyond to do the work, and they will be working to moves things along as fast as they can to have teachers in front of students for September.
