Clarenville has been declared Newfoundland and Labrador’s most active community by ParticipACTION.
For the effort, the town gets $15,000 cash to support recreation initiatives.
Thirty per cent of the total score in the nationwide community challenge was based on the level of activity in the town.
Councillor Keith Fillier, who chairs the recreation committee, says the key was getting organizations involved including businesses, seniors homes, government offices and swim club.
He says over 19,000 person-entries were tracked over the month in question at various times.
