The province is allocating money to build a new Virginia Park Community Centre in the east end of St. John’s.
Government is giving $1-million plus the land as well as a $237,000 operating grant.
The new centre will be located on Janeway Place, next to 32 NLHC homes in the area that are nearing completion. That means the facility will serve not only Virginia Park, but the growing Pleasantville community and families in the Quidi Vidi and Forest Road areas.
The centre will eventually be renamed to reflect its broader coverage zone.
