The investigation into the firebombing of a home on Dillon Crescent in Shea Heights on July 5th has resulted in two arrests, numerous charges and the seizure of a large number of explosives and explosive material.
RNC, the tactical unit and RCMP Emergency Response Team descended on a home on Druken Crescent on Friday, July 18 with search warrant in hand.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says numerous items were seized.
- Molotov cocktail
- Gas cans and containers with holes placed
- Twelve jerry cans filled with gas
- Butane canisters
- Ammonium nitrate (explosive precursor)
- Paramount burner fuel canisters
- Ammunition
- Various pills
- Flame thrower torch
- Propane tank with torch, seven hand-ties, two mouth gags, bottle of pins
Two people have been arrested and charged.
29-year-old Tyler Downey of St. John’s is charged with;
- Two counts of possession of explosives intending bodily harm
- Two counts of possession of explosives for an unlawful purpose
- Two counts of using explosives with intent
- Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of incendiary material
- Two counts of failure to comply with a release order
44-year-old Scott Whalen of Mobile is charged with;
- Arson
- Possession of incendiary material
- Using explosives with intent
- Possession of explosives for an unlawful purpose
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
