The Town of Gander is shelving its fireworks plans as wildfires rage across the province.

In a social media post Monday morning, the municipality says the high fire index and an increased risk for forest fires have cancelled the display.

They say other events during their Gander Day celebrations will go ahead as normal.

Events are planned to start later today.
