Premier John Hogan will provide the latest update on the wildfire situation in the province at 1:30 p.m.
In the most recent update, the fire burning near Paddy’s Pond was around 200 hectares in size and didn’t move much overnight. Crews have been deployed in the air and on the ground today fighting the fire.
NL Hydro says the Paddy’s Pond fire remains a threat to its transmission lines, and it warns that power outages are possible.
NL Hydro says its monitoring the potential impact closely, and as of right now all three lines are online and serving customers.
It suggests that residents be prepared in the event that power lines or equipment are affected.
Fire crews are also busy fighting out of control fires in Conception Bay North and near Martin Lake in Central Newfoundland.
Chief Medical Officer Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald will join today’s panel—likely to address concerns around wildfire smoke in the metro region.
