While inflation in Newfoundland and Labrador rose more steeply last month than it did nationally, the provincial government says inflation is actually lower in this province when taking into account the bigger picture.
The Department of Finance says the increase in the cost of living in NL for the first seven months of the year was 0.9 per cent, whereas nationally it was 2.0 per cent.
The government has also revised its forecast for inflation this year. Instead of 2.5 per cent, it will now average 0.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, retail sales in Newfoundland and Labrador rose by 0.2 per cent in June compared with the month before. On a year-over-year basis, retail sales increased by 4.3 per cent from June 2024 to June 2025.
