The provincial government is going to subsidize air travel for people who live in the north.
The pilot program, announced by Premier John Hogan, is designed to reduce the hefty cost of airline tickets.
Government will provide 175 round-trip tickets per week through PAL at a special base fare plus a 30-per cent discount beginning immediately.
Tickets must originate from a Labrador airport, Blanc Sablon or St. Anthony to St. John’s, Gander or Deer Lake. For North Coast residents, tickets can include travel to and from Goose Bay.
The number of seats available at the subsidized rates will be allocated per airport based on population density, and will be limited per flight.
To access the program, people will have to complete an application form online.
