Government has ordered North Atlantic Refining to do an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the Avalon Isthmus Green Energy Project.
The company is proposing to construct and operate a 324 megawatt onshore wind energy project consisting of 45 turbines in the Sunnyside area, a hydrogen generation plant capable of producing 30,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, and a plant capable of processing 60,000 tonnes of hydrogen at the existing Come by Chance terminal.
The product will be shipped from North Atlantic’s port facilities to international markets.
More than 1,200 full-time jobs would be created during the construction phase of the project. About 60 people would be required for operation and maintenance.
