RCMP have confirmed that a 43-year-old woman is dead after the vehicle she was in went off the causeway linking Twillingate and New World Island.

Police received a call around 7:15 yesterday morning from a member of a construction crew working on the causeway who noticed debris on the road and suspected that a vehicle had left the road and gone into the water.

RCMP brought in divers to locate the vehicle, and removed it from the water using a crane.

The woman’s body was found inside.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is involved in the ongoing investigation.
