The Kids Eat Smart Foundation has a big fundraiser coming up and they’re already more than $15,000 to the good.
The organization, which provides free meals to school kids every day in the province, held a so-called soft launch yesterday for the upcoming event.
A partnership between the Newfoundland Regiment hockey club and the Hebron project team will happen during Kids Eat Smart Night at the Mary Brown’s Centre on Sept. 27th.
Five dollars from every ticket for that game against the Charlottetown Islanders will go toward the Kids Eat Smart Foundation.
In advance of the game, the Regiment has already donated $5,000 to the cause, while Hebron doubled that with $10,000.
Foundation executive director Celina Stoyles says providing such an invaluable service would not be possible without community partnerships.
“Our goal is to ensure that every child and youth has access to food at school, at no cost to them or their family,” she said. “But the only way we can do this is with community support, people coming together, and events like this.”
Kids Eat Smart provides almost 50,000 meals every day for school children in the province, with more than 6.3 million served last year.
