Five impaired drivers were taken off the road on the west coast on Saturday – all within the span of a couple of hours.
The first, a 35-year-old woman, was pulled over just before 11 a.m. on West Street in Stephenville and failed a breath test. Police say the woman did not have an in-car breathalyzer, which was required due to a previous impaired conviction. She was ticketed for that and for being on the road with an expired license.
Twenty minutes later, another driver failed a breath test this time on Prince Rupert Drive. The accused, a 37-year-old man who already has charges of impaired before the courts, will appear at a later date on new charges of impaired, refusal, and driving while suspended.
Later that afternoon, three more people who were behind the wheel failed the breathalyzer – two in Port au Port and one in Port au Port East.
In all cases the drivers had their licenses suspended and vehicles impounded.
