A St. John’s city councilor is reflecting on some of the challenges she encountered on the campaign trail earlier this year.
A public event was held in the capital city on Thursday night focusing on the pros and cons on running for public office.
The event attracted several people, some of whom won their bid and others who came up short.
Kate Cadigan, who won her seat on city council, was among them.
She says every day on the campaign trail was a surprise, and every door she knocked on was different.
Cadigan says there were times where she was asked questions that she just didn’t know the answer to.
She believes that is a normal experience for anyone running for politics, because it is hard to answer questions about the system without working in the system. She says at first, those moments made her think “what have I done?” However, Cadigan states she soon realized that it is okay to go do some more research and reach out to people again.
