The Mayor of Mount Pearl says he plans on focusing on density as his community looks to grow.
Currently, Mount Pearl is nearly landlocked between Paradise and St. John’s, with little room left for new development.
Mayor Dave Aker says his council is looking at high-density projects that come before council, in hopes of solving a housing crisis in the metro region.
‘We’re a city that’s going to grow more by density in the future. So we have a Housing Accelerator Fund team. We’ve worked with CMHC, (Canada Mortgage and Housing) to fund that,” he told reporters.
“Even though we have areas to the north of the city that are being developed with new subdivisions in the coming couple of years with the installation of a new water tower, they’re very much focused on making use of the existing land.”
