The Toronto Police Service says the entire community has a role to play in addressing and stopping gun violence in the community.
Chief Marvin Demkiw provided an update on a shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival in Toronto on Saturday that claimed the lives of two men and sent many others to hospital with injuries.
Demkiw says the investigation is ongoing but it appears to be a targeted event.
He told reporters yesterday that investigators are still gathering evidence and says while gun violence in Toronto is down overall, the incident has shaken the entire community.
“Shootings are down…over 26 per cent compared to the same time last year. But, when a brazen shooting occurs in a public setting like what happened this weekend, it understandably shakes the sense of safety and security that Torontonians expect and deserve.”
