The president of Municipalities NL is addressing what she calls misconceptions around the effects of increasing the housing stock in communities.
During MNL’s annual conference earlier this year, Amy Coady says conversations were had about how communities can increase the availability of all types of housing.
Coady states there is a “common misconception” that increasing the housing stock in a community will mean that home values either stagnate or drop.
On the contrary, she says increasing the availability of housing will draw in more people and businesses to those communities and make them more attractive.
She would like to see the topic talked about more, because some people think more housing is a “deterrent,” but in actuality it has the opposite effect.
