NLers Heading to the Polls October 14
Premier John Hogan arrived at Government House accompanied by this wife Gill and dog Rooney to ask the Lieutenant Governor to dissolve government, triggering a provincial election.
He greeted reporters as he approached Government House.
The development was not unexpected since it was the last day on which an election writ must be dropped according to provincial legislation.
Fire Prompts Evacuation as Fire Burns Near Lethbridge
The RCMP was responding to a fire burning near Route 233 by Sexton Lumber in Lethbridge.
Residents in the Bayview area were been ordered to evacuate immediately. Police and Ground Search and Rescue were on the ground assisting with the evacuation.
Route 233 was closed to all traffic in both directions.

Former Member of Independent Oversight Panel Provides More Detail on Resignation
The man who resigned from the Independent Churchill River Negotiation Oversight Panel back in May has released more information about his decision to step away.
Michael Wilson says he resigned from the panel on May 7th after chair Dennis Browne revealed “new information” during a meeting the previous day that caused him “great concern.”
He says he clearly detailed his concerns, but ultimately they were “dismissed.”

Regional Water System says Water Main Breaks Like That Which Affected CBS,’Difficult to Predict’
Things are returning to normal in Conception Bay South after a busted water line left the entire town high and dry. The State of Emergency was lifted after a period without water.
The Regional Water System in the Goulds supplies water to suburban municipalities, including CBS, but the line burst.
St. John’s says water systems are regularly monitored by city staff, who acted quickly to identify the location of the break and repair it.
Josh Hartnett Collides with RNC Vehicle in St. John’s Crash
American actor Josh Hartnett was taken to the hospital in St. John’s, according to multiple reports, after colliding with an RNC officer.
The accident occurred just before 1 a.m. in the morning at the intersection of New Cove Road and Elizabeth Avenue.
RNC issued a plea for public help, looking for dash-cam footage in relation to the accident later that day.

Canada’s First Commercial Space Launch Delayed Again
The company behind Canada’s first-ever commercial space launch was hoping to get off the ground in St. Lawrence, but it has now been postponed.
NordSpace tried to launch its rocket in late August, but that was scrubbed to a new window – which was eventually scrapped.
CEO Rahul Goel calls this a ‘very important’ first step for his company’s and Canada’s access to space.
