The premier says government is focused on filling existing vacancies within the RNC and RCMP before looking at hiring additional officers.
Last September, Tony Wakeham promised to hire at least 46 new police officers – 25 for the RCMP and 21 for the RNC.
Wakeham says those discussions have not happened yet as they are focused on the current vacancies in the system .
He says the statistics for how many officers are needed came from both police forces. He says they need to fully staff their current complement, then work with them on how to add more.
