The Town of Carbonear held a special council meeting this week to adopt its 2026 budget, reducing the mil rate by 0.25 mils. The residential rate is 6.5 mils and the commercial 8.5.
There is no increase in garbage and recycling collection fees.
The $9.2-million financial plan, roughly the same as last year’s, includes just over $4-million in capital projects such as a secondary water supply for the hospital and long-term care home, Water Street East upgrades, pumphouse upgrades, and a comprehensive leak detection program.
More money will be spent on firefighter training, and the honorarium will be increased. The town also plans to start the process of replacing the fire department’s crew cab vehicle.
