A woman who helped to establish a famous downtown landmark has passed away.
Winnifred, better known as Winnie, Crocker opened Lar’s Confectionery on New Gower Street in 1954 alongside her husband, after whom the business was named.
The store, with its colourful sign, striped canopy and bright lights, is remembered by many for its custard cones and sweet treats.
Crocker continued to run the business after husband Lar’s passing in 1991, until it closed in 2003.
She passed away on Thursday at the age of 98.
Her funeral service is scheduled for next week.
