A new university course that dives into what’s being called the “sex abuse crisis” in modern Christianity is being offered at MUN.
The course, which is also being offered at Queen’s College in St. John’s, is called The Sex Abuse Crisis in Modern Christianity.
It was inspired by advocate and clergy abuse survivor Gemma Hickey, who broached the idea after delivering a lecture to the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome two years ago.
Dr. Michelle Rebidoux, a professor at both universities, created the course in close consultation with Hickey.
The course looks at the issue through a number of different lenses, with particular attention to the Catholic Church in North America and the Mount Cashel Orphanage scandal.
As part of the course, Father Hans Zollner will visit St. John’s in March to deliver a public lecture, offer specialized training to local priests, and visit the sites of the former Belvedere and Mount Cashel orphanages.
Registration for the course closes at the end of the week.]
