Continued stormy weather is causing headaches for Marine Atlantic as it tries to clear significant backlogs in commercial traffic on either side of the Gulf.
Marine Atlantic’s Darrell Mercer says some 400 trailers are backed up on the North Sydney side of the crossing, and 300 on the Port aux Basques side, with more arriving all the time.
Mercer says they’re currently looking at a possible weather window tomorrow to try to move more goods.
Their captains are going to look at the forecast this evening, and “we’re hoping that there may be a window sometime tomorrow that we might get another crossing in.”
He says there is no specific schedule, it will depend on when conditions are favourable. “It’s been a very challenging winter so far” says Mercer.
