The mayor of Torbay says his town will be in much better shape this summer than last regarding the water supply.
Lack of snow last winter, a dry spring and a hot, dry summer did a number on its water supply with levels on North Pond way below standard.
It will be a couple of years before a new water treatment plant and associated infrastructure on their main reservoir, North Pond, will be up and running.
If the town encounters issues with North Pond this year, it will be able to channel water from Whiteway Pond with the installation of about 2,100 meters of piping.
“The most important piece, though, is to get that water treatment plant built at North Pond to provide a better quality of water,” says Mayor Craig Scott.
“There are some areas that might get sediment in the water and it may turn colour.”
