The provincial government has come up with an action plan to address issues raised in the Child and Youth Advocate’s special report released in December.
The report examined policies and procedures in place to help protect the safety and wellbeing of children in protective intervention services following reported sexual abuse or exploitation.
The province says it will conduct an independent examination of police policies, procedures and response allegations that a child or young person has been sexually abused or exploited with the aim of improving them.
It will also complete an ongoing review of the Children, Youth and Families Act to further protect and ensure the safety of young people in care.
It will also re-establish a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre as a central access point for child victims and their families, and government is committed to finalizing an updated MOU with police organizations by the end of the year.
