A woman whose father was mauled and seriously injured by two dogs in Pouch Cove earlier this week believes stronger legislation is needed to take action when it comes to dealing with aggressive animals.
The 76-year-old had to undergo emergency surgery for “life-altering” injuries.
The RNC had to dispatch the two large-breed animals after they attacked and injured four people Wednesday afternoon.
Juanita Stamp-Hillier claims that the dogs were known to be aggressive, and complaints had been made to the town council and RNC as well.
She says since the terrible events occurred, she’s been messaged by a number of people who had encounters with the same dogs before.
“We need stronger legislation to make sure this (doesn’t) happen” Stamp-Hillier told VOCM Open Line. She says towns don’t have the authority to act on complaints and remove aggressive dogs.
“That needs to change, when there (are) so many complaints, and people are scared to go for a walk in their own neighbourhood, then the town needs to have more authority to be able to do something about that, and make everyone feel safe again.”
