RCMP on the province’s west coast and in Labrador are cracking down on those in violation of court orders as the result of a coordinated initiative aimed at strengthening oversight of those released into the community on conditions.
The offender management initiative, launched in early January, has already resulted in charges against six people in violation of court-ordered conditions, and two arrests on outstanding warrants.
RCMP say many of those subject to the management initiative are prolific offenders and are known to police and those in the community.
In the first month, 21 checks were carried out by police in Labrador and western Newfoundland with six arrested for breaching their conditions and two arrested on outstanding warrants.
