The Placentia Town Council has met with government officials to discuss the Placentia wave wall, with an agreement to cover the cost of engineering to repair and replace the existing wall, and extend it to the rest of the harbour.
Mayor Jamie Neville told VOCM Open Line he was filming the wall during Monday’s storm when waves topped the structure.
He says he had his window down to film the situation and “the waves were actually hitting and coming over, and at one point I had to put my window up because it was coming in my truck.”
He calls it an emergency situation that has to be dealt with.
He believes the provincial and federal governments need to address the problem. “Not just the wall failing is one thing, but of course the higher winds and the rising tides. The environmental issues are certainly a big concern for the Placentia area.”
