There will be a presentation and launch of a website for a project aiming to collect data on war brides – specifically from WW1.
Two organizations – the Trail of the Caribou research group and the heritage committee at the Presbyterian Church – are teaming up on an effort to collect as much information, including stories and pictures – on war brides from The Great War.
One of those involved, Dr. Ian Parsons, told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan that extensive documentation exists about war brides from WWII, but not so much from WWI.
“We’re trying to get the stories out about them. Most of the women who returned to Newfoundland with soldiers were from Scotland where the Newfoundlanders trained,” says Dr. Parsons.
The presentation and website launch takes place Tuesday night at The Kirk.
“The other site has mainly World War II, but we have found about 200 women who were war brides. Originally when we started the research, it was 18,” says Parsons.
