As we near the deadline for input into the Quebec-Newfoundland/Labrador MOU on hydro development, the mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay says we must not repeat the mistakes of Muskrat Falls.
That hydro project is only a few miles from Goose Bay, which became the epicenter for much of the socio-economic spinoff. Mayor Bert Pomeroy says large-scale projects cannot succeed if their community is left without the resources and capacity needed to support growth, protect residents, and plan for the future.
The MOU calls for expansion of nearby Churchill Falls and development of Gull Island.
The deadline for submissions to the review committee is March 1.
