Memorial University’s Team Locke is the U Sports/CCAA women’s national curling champion after taking top spot this weekend in Regina.
The foursome topped the round-robin with a 5-2 record and edged McMaster 5-4 in eight ends to advance through Saturday’s playoff.
Team Locke includes skip Cailey Locke, second Emily Neary, lead Sitaye Penney, and Hayley Gushue, daughter of Newfoundland curling star Brad Gushue. The team was coached by Jeff Thomas.
It’s the first time a Memorial women’s team has won that national title.
On the men’s side, Team Perry finished third in the round-robin and made it to the medal round, but fell 6-3 to Alberta in the bronze medal game.
