One of the players who helped lead Montreal back to Stanley Cup glory in the mid-80s and who carried out the torch before the Montreal Canadians game against the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night at the Bell Centre is dead.

Claude Lemieux helped lead the Habs to the Cup in 1986 by scoring 10 goals in 20 playoff games. Montreal traded him a few years later, and he was named the Conn Smythe winner in the 1995 playoffs, leading New Jersey with 13 goals as the Devils swept the Red Wings in the final. He went on to win two more NHL championships with the Devils and Colorado.
