Firefighters had to react quickly to a fire on the Northern Peninsula Thursday afternoon which was burning close to a wooded area and very near a house.
Wildlife officers arrived to see large plumes of smoke and a fire which was out of control.
A mixture of household furniture, tires, brush and grass was alight and the blaze was only 500 meters away from the nearest house. The fire did not spread to the house or nearby wooded areas.
People are reminded that it is an offence under the Forest Fire Regulations to light a fire on forest land, within 300 metres of forest land, or in an area containing flammable vegetation during the Forest Fire Season unless a permit to burn has been issued.
Officers are asking anyone with information or footage to contact them at 709-637-2971 during business hours, or anonymously at 1-877-820-0999.
