The capital city has confirmed that a Code of Conduct complaint investigation launched against councilor Tom Davis cost taxpayers in St. John’s $24,000.
A former council candidate raised questions about the cost of the investigation and subsequent report related to comments made by Davis that were overheard by others, and raised by Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth.
Walter Harding took to social media this week to question the cost of the most recent investigation – and others – linked to Ron Ellsworth.
That immediately raised the ire of Ellsworth who addressed the cost on VOCM Open Line this morning asking whether the question should be what the cost of not taking action on workplace issues could be.
Davis was suspended from council – with pay – for one month and must undergo sensitivity training. A report on the Code of Conduct investigation obtained by VOCM News through an Access to Information request is almost entirely blacked out.
In the meantime, Ellsworth is vowing that the information will come out.
“In the coming weeks, there’ll be enough information coming out…for people to understand what happened. If that means I’ve got to violate the Code of Conduct to make that happen. I will make that happen.”
