The province is “exploring potential options,” but no plans have yet been finalized to establish a dedicated emergency shelter and supportive housing in Corner Brook.
The provincial government will not be extending its lease on Horizons 106 in St. John’s, which is currently being used as transitional housing with added supports for those struggling to secure an affordable and safe place to live.
NL Housing is currently using the Hotel Corner Brook as an emergency shelter, and says it has no immediate plans to change that arrangement.
The minister responsible, Joedy Wall, is paying a visit to Corner Brook to speak with local MHAs about current arrangements and other housing needs in the region.
NL Housing says the focus is on housing, and all those who enter the shelter system are expected to work with the agency and local community groups to secure permanent housing.
